INTRODUCTION
The current efficiency of cathode current is up to 22-26%.
Available current density can be up to 60 amp/dm² or more, thus the deposit rate is well improved.
The RC-25 does not contain fluoride and does not corrode the low current area of the workpiece.
The micro-hardness of the coating is up to 1000-1100KHN100, the number of micro-cracks of the coating is up to 1000/inch, which improves the corrosion resistance.
Smooth and bright coating.
Uniform coating thickness, reduces over-thickness deposition at high current density.
No etching of lead-tin anode, special anode/cathode material is not required.
The pretreatment process, anode and plating tank are the same as the general traditional chrome plating process.
EQUIPMENT
Tank: hard PVC or steel tank lined with soft PVC, and ventilation equipment next to the tank is required.
Rectifier: require enough amperage loads lie on tanks, ripple ratio is less than 5%, voltage is greater than 15V.
Anode: lead-tin alloy (tin 7%)or lead-antimony alloy, auxiliary and pictographic anodes should also use lead-tin or lead-antimony alloy.
Heat system: titanium, lead or polytetrafluoroethylene.
Cooling pipe: titanium or lead.
Filter pump: material should be made of stainless steel or chromic acid resistant plastic.
ROLE OF ADDITIVES AND REPLENISHMENT
Make-up agent RC-25K is usually only used for new plating solutions, or for replenish of the loss of drag-outs.
RC-25R is used as a solution replenishment: 100 ml of RC-25R is added for every 1 kg of chromic anhydride replenish.
EFFECT OF IMPURITIES
Impurities that are detrimental to the general hard chromium solution also effect the RC-25. Too much impurity of trivalent chromium and metal (iron, copper, nickel) will result in the decrease of the conductivity of the bath and make the coating rough. The total impurity content should not exceed 7.5 g/l, also the chloride ion content should not exceed 100 pm.
SOLUTION UPDATE
The process of converting from traditional hard chromium plating to RC-25 is very simple. It only needs to analyze and adjust the content of metal impurities in the plating solution no more than 7.5 g/l, fluoride content less than 0.2 g/l, then adjust the content of chromic anhydride to 240 g/l, and finally add RC-25 according to the make-up amount.
