INTRODUCTION
It's a very stable bath. The same bath can be used to produce dense structures with good ductility for thick and thin copper coatings. The bath has high concentration, low addition, low specific gravity, and good fluidity.
Low operating temperature, fast deposition rate.
There are only two replenishers, simple to operate.
The deposition rate of the bath on the pore walls is higher than that on the copper surface.
SOLUTION MAINTENANCE
Solution storage: the intensity of activation of the working solution RC-340 is less than 80% of that of the make-up, and the temperature is room temperature. During the hot season, or for long storage, 0.1-0.3 ml/l of RC-340C should be added to the bath with a moderate of air agitating, which increases the bath’s stability and service life.
RC-340A (B) is added prior to the daily operation, and then analysis of copper, sodium hydroxide and formaldehyde in bath. Finally, adjust to the optimum value with RC-340A (B) and formaldehyde.
All the bath should be filtered into the reserve tank before the end of the operation. And a continuous filtration is required at the same time, which will filter out the copper flakes and extend the service life of the bath.
RC-340 was added in a sequence of A’s followed by B’s; a thickness of 2.5 m surface area and 1 dm2 will be processed for every 30 minutes, which requires the addition of 2.24 ml of RC-340A and 1.80 ml of RC-340B.
SOLUTION ANALYSIS
Ø Copper analysis
1. Pipette a 10 ml sample and diluted with 60 ml of distilled water.
2. Add 25 ml of ammonium chloride buffer (dissolve 70 g of NH4CI in 900 ml of distilled water, add ammonium to pH = 10.0, and then dilute to 1 L);
3. Add 4 drops of PAN indicator.
4. Titration to green end point with 0.05M EDTA.
5. Calculation: g/l copper = 6.354 x M x titration (ml)
Replenishment
The amount of CP RC-340A added to the solution is : ml / l CP RC-340A = 0.35 x [ 100-10.4 x titrant ( mL ) ]
The amount of CP RC-340B added to the solution is : ml / l CP RC-340B = 0.8 x g / L CP5540A
Ø Analysis of sodium hydroxide and formaldehyde in bath
1. Pipette a 5 ml sample and diluted with 50 ml of distilled water.
2. Adjust the pH = 10.0 with 0.1N HCI, recording the amount of titration as l (ml).
3. Add 20 ml of 1M sodium sulfite (pH = 10.0), stir and place for 1 min.
4. Adjust the pH = 10.0 with 0.1N HCI, recording the amount of titration as ll (ml).
Calculation:
g / L NaOH = 0.8 × I
g / L CH2O = 0.6 × ( II-I )
Replenishment
Adding 2.58 ml/l of CP 5540B increases the content of sodium hydroxide by 1 g/l.
The amount of formaldehyde in the bath can be raised by 1.0 g/l by adding 2.5 ml/l of formaldehyde at a concentration of 37-40%.
WASTE BATH DISPOSAL
The RC-340 bath is alkaline and contains complex copper ions. The bath to be discharged is heated to 70-80 to precipitate the contained copper. After the blue color of the bath has disappeared, the clear liquid is emptied and neutralized with a dilute acid to a pH of 6-8.
